One option you forgot to mention is to actually hire a lawyer to represent you in traffic court. Sometimes (not always) it's worth the money.

@stacy - I missed your comment, but my guess is that practically everyone was found guilty that day I went as well. That sucks about your experience being pulled over by that cop who obviously didn't want to give you the benefit of the doubt.

It's sad that we have to come to the determination, we can't contest a ticket and have a fair chance of winning!

@Carole - Yeah, it was pretty annoying. I hate those tourist trap tickets...so hard to contest when you don't live in the same city! I know it's about the city wanting/needing money so I'm trying not to take it too personally.

@jennydecki - Sounds like your cousin is a pro on getting out of tickets! If something happens like this again, I'm definitely going to take pictures. Guess that means I need to get that iPhone soon!

@Erica - I don't think the term 'fair trial' applies to traffic court. It's a crazy experience that is very much on the side of the judge/cop/prosecutor/city!

I went to traffic court in Los Angeles, and every single person there was found guilty and had to pay the fine (+fees of course). I sat and watched the entire proceeding, and not one person got their ticket dismissed. After that I decided that contesting a ticket was a total waste of time.

In my case I was lost at night in an unlit residential area, and after stopping at a stop sign, I proceeded very slowly though the 4 way intersection trying to find a street sign so I could get out of there... suddenly I was pulled over for running a stop sign. What a crock. The officer admitted that he had only spotted me once I was in the intersection moving slowly, and that he thought I was drunk (I was not). Then he refused to give me directions!! Instead decided to give me a lecture about my out-of-state plates!! What an a-hole. AGhhh.
